How do we stop people from posting a whole page of banal questions which swamp the site with mediocrity. Doesn’t Admin have a role to play. If they left us alone we could self-regulate. It seems they prefer to interfere but, naturally, only when it suits them ?

Why?
I was about to ask a similar question about the “swamp”, but poor admin can’t really be blamed for it. I think that each and every nooker should exercise some degree of respect and equality when using the site to post items.
Maybe we nookers can agree to self-regulate to the extent whereby we all agree to say post no more than two contributions per page or wait at least two days before posting again if the original page has not been filled within that time. Just a thought.. This is really a tough one!
I’m sure that admin would be keen to encourage nooking (or posting) but at the same time they too would probably prefer to see a page of contributions from various nookers who not only post but also comment to other people’s posts and contributions. Nooking is really all about posting and commenting, preserving the spirit of community that is Nook, keeping the site more balanced and diverse.
Of course admin can (and should) be blamed. Control of this site is their sole raison d’etre and if they cannot perform this simple act with integrity then they should be damned to hell (or whatever atheist region of everlasting agony, ignomy and physical discomfort they prefer).
Hmmm… I agree with you on this one. It’s rather annoying to get a screen completely full of posts from the same member (sometimes about the same thing!), thus pushing all other posts onto the next page, but at the same time, it’s probably like when a kid gets a new toy - they play with it like crazy for the first day, then the novelty wears off a bit, and everything returns to normal.
I think there should be a limit (maybe no more than 3 posts per person per day?), but as a recommendation, not a concrete rule.
Dont misunderstand me, its not the number of posts but the fact that they all appear at once - as if someone has meticulously prepared them all beforehand. As such they lose any immediacy or originality and appear contrived which detracts from their real (if any) worth. I do not want to stifle originality or discussion, just the repetition of look-at-me that sometimes afflicts sites such as this.
Posting protest blogs like this one is the proper way to get the message across, not demand admin act as a puritan chief censor when a nookster annoys you.
Nook Nazi
Once again we are shooting the messenger. Blame the medium.
Call me old fashioned, but your posts are neither caustic, biting or amusing.
Not worth a reply really.
I don’t understand the complaint…..”How” …how is any one issue jamming the system up…as a relevant newcomer I hope my comments on the Glen Eira Council haven’t stuffed up your day? From what little I’ve seen throughout the site, I think it demonstrates a good cross section of differing POVs…and in my case it is about “Where I live” I joined initially when the site started but have only recently found my code word to use it again so I am making up for lost time. I am still learning as you can tell! You’re asking “How?” and I’m saying “Thankyou for the opportunity”.
I hate to agree with Dr Fell (really) but the multiple post thing is annoying and unnecessary.
If I had looked at the site for the first time yesterday I’d have thought Nook was coolbunny’s personal blog. Now CB might be a fascinating individual but as a fickle internet user I’d click on two posts and bugger off and never discover gems from viv, meinrosebud and marywalsh among others.
I also agree that admin has a role in this (sorry Sol) via the approval process.
It’s not however a view I expected to share with an anarchistic people eater.
Praise indeed. Don’t worry, fossil, you are not the first convert and you will not be the last. One day all people will think as I do !
Er, did fossil just convert to something? I thought that he just said that he simply agrees with or shares a view about excess postings..
“One day all people will think as I do !”
I can feel it happening already. A veritable tsunami of post-modern, neo-Marcusian, existential, crypto-syllogistic, ontological phenomenology.
Dr. Fell, a prophet in his own empirical lifetime.
sedge3041 your efficacious magniloquence is empyreal.
Come now Sir, a slight over-exaggeration I fear. Still, you are thinking on the right lines. Welcome to my world.
By the way, have you read any of the Organon lately ?
Sorry Doc, haven’t been dipping into the rich well that is the Organon.
Less peripatetic, more dsypeptic of late. Foolishly conversing more with the monkeys than the organon grinders and finding that there are some things I Kant get me bonce around and young Harry Stotle happens to be one of them.
